Statelessness reduction campaign launched in Bishkek

Bishkek, 2 July 2015 – The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Registration Service, and the Office of the Mayor of Bishkek launched a joint campaign to reduce statelessness in Bishkek city. UN Human Rights Office urges Kyrgyz Parliament to reject amendments to laws which institutionalize discrimination against LGBT community

29 June 2015, Bishkek – TheUN Human Rights Office in Central Asia today expressed deep concern at the second-stage approval in Parliament of amendments to various laws that would create criminal and administrative sanctions for so-called "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations". If adopted, these amendments will entrench in law discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
