Schoolchildren and their parents celebrate the International Day of Families in the Kyrgyz Republic

Published: 19 May 2022 г.

To mark the International Family Day, from May 12 to 25, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the Social and Russian Industrial Food Institute and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic will hold a series of educational events in schools located in Batken and Talas provinces. The two weeks long campaign will be devoted to raising the awareness of the public on the importance of balanced diet and nutrition, as well as its role in the development of a child.

Campaign activities are designed to strengthen the role of parents in shaping children's healthy eating behavior. For the most part, it is the parents who are the authority for the child and can significantly influence his eating habits, teaching the basics of rational nutrition from an early age. Primary school students and their parents will take part in interactive healthy eating games. The events will be held in three schools in Batken province and three schools in Talas province.

In addition, the campaign will be accompanied by an online contest on WFP's social media pages. Participants will be able to compete and prepare a dish with the whole family according to recipes posted on the website tamakash.edu.gov.kg. The top ten video creators, selected by an independent commission, will receive prizes.

This campaign is held within the framework of the “Optimized School Meals Programme”. The programme aims to improve the nutrition in the country's primary schools. To date, WFP has provided technical assistance to the Government in launching optimized hot and diverse school meals in over 800 schools.
