GENEVA (3 March 2014) – Kyrgyzstan’s human rights record will face the scrutiny of the United Nations Human Rights Committee for the second time on Monday 10 March and Tuesday 11 March in meetings that will be webcast live.

Kyrgyzstan is one of the 167 states parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which is one of the primary international human rights treaties, and so is required to undergo regular examinations of its human rights record before the Human Rights Committee.

Time : 15:00 to 18:00  (20:00-23:00 in Bishkek) on 10 March; 10:00 to 13:00 (15:00-18:00) on 11 March

The Committee, which is composed of 18 independent experts, will engage in a dialogue with the delegation on questions relating to the promotion and protection of human rights in the country. Kyrgyzstan has submitted a report on implementation of its human rights obligations to the Committee and a number of non-governmental organisations have also sent reports for the Committee’s consideration.

The Committee will hold a news conference on Thursday 27 March at 13:30 at Palais des Nations in Geneva to discuss its concluding observations on Kyrgyzstan and the other countries being reviewed – USA, Sierra Leone, Latvia, Chad, and Nepal.
