Bishkek. Women Support Center, with support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program, has launched a three-month project titled “The Committee for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (CPDV) as an Effective Tool for the Prevention of Domestic Violence” that will be implemented from December 2018 through February 2019.
The project contributes to implementation of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Safeguarding and Protection from Domestic Violence and promoting activities of CPDVs in urban communities such as Ak Bosogo, Kalys Ordo, and Kolmo of Bishkek city for prevention of domestic violence.
As part of the project, trainings will be conducted to CPDV representatives to strengthen their capacity and support implementation of their initiatives on the elimination of domestic violence during the international campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.” Furthermore, educational activities will be carried out for daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law as well as for young men, women, and families to raise their awareness of issues related to the prevention of domestic violence. Over 90 women and 120 young women and men in total will be trained in the three urban communities. They will develop their skills and learn how to behave in cases of domestic violence, as well as obtain knowledge that will change their understanding and behavior of both victims of violence and those committing domestic violence.
To raise public awareness of the existing domestic violence issues and CPDV activities aimed at prevention of domestic violence, the Women Support Center will provide regular media coverage of activities carried out in the urban communities through cooperation with media and news on TV and radio, as well as publications in press and social media.
The Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) promotes effective collaboration between civil society, the private sector, and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
