On May 13, 2025, the KOICA Office in the Kyrgyz Republic handed over an electric vehicle to the Public Association “Tazar Mekenim” within the framework of the “Project for Kyrgyzstan Recycles: A Sustainable Awareness and Waste Reduction in Bishkek”.
The new vehicle with increased loading capacity and longer battery life will increase the volume of recyclables collected by “Tazar Mekenim” not only in Bishkek, but also in Chui region.
The project’s goal is to contribute to building a clean and sustainable environment by reducing landfill waste volume through increased waste separation and recycling and by raising public awareness of waste management.
Within the framework of the project, several other activities have taken place.
Tazar App mobile application has been refined to enhance user experience and accessibility to crucial waste management information for the citizens.
59 students of the Academy of Tourism joined the Training of Trainers (ToT) program by “Tazar Mekenim”, and later they led peer training activities, spreading awareness and reinforcing environmentally responsible behaviors of more than 400 students of the Academy. To further embed recycling habits within the community, a set of recycling bins were installed at the Academy. Each set included at least three bins designed to separate paper, PET, and hard plastic materials from general waste. Alongside these bins, informative campaign materials were placed to educate students and faculty about proper waste segregation, which increased awareness and participation in sustainable waste management efforts.
KOICA also supported a training on eco-education and green skills by “Tazar Mekenim” for 27 schoolteachers from 9 public schools in Chui region who are part of the “Teach for Kyrgyzstan – Modern Teacher” initiative. They will integrate environmental education into their daily teaching practices and become advocates for green behavior within their schools.
KOICA strives to support the establishment of strategies and policies for the environment and climate change in Kyrgyzstan by utilizing various types of programs and projects, and training programs designed to improve awareness.
