Deputy minister of economy of Kyrgyzstan and vice president of KOICA discuss cooperation

Bishkek, Sept. 7, 2023 / Kabar. At the head office of KOICA in the Republic of Korea, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanat Abdrakhmanov and Vice President of KOICA Lee Yun Yong who is in charge of Eurasian cooperation.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy, the vice president noted with satisfaction the fruitful cooperation and support of the department in the implementation of projects within the framework of official development assistance KOICA.

In turn, Abdrakhmanov expressed his gratitude to KOICA for the assistance provided in the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan, noting that the country is facing such challenges as climate change, food security, and the energy crisis. The deputy minister emphasized that the experience and advanced technologies accumulated by the Korean side are of particular interest to Kyrgyzstan, and the transfer of this experience contributes to resolving issues in these key areas.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the current portfolio of projects, as well as planned projects, including a pilot project for the transition of the vehicle fleet of Kyrgyzpochtasy OJSC to electric vehicles and projects in the field of digitalization.

In addition, the sides noted the strengthening of bilateral cooperation since 2013 since the signing of the Framework Agreement and the opening of a local KOICA office in the Kyrgyz Republic. Thus, since 1991, a number of projects worth more than 70 million US dollars have been implemented in such areas as public administration, agriculture, digitalization, healthcare, and the environment.

In conclusion, the deputy minister noted the readiness to expand and deepen cooperation by increasing the portfolio of projects, in particular in the areas of green economy and sustainable energy.
