Central Asian Local and Economic Community Development Programme to be Adapted for Use in Afghanistan
Kabul, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 5 August 2014– The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG)of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the University of Central Asia (UCA), which is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), signed a Memorandum of Understanding to increase the capacity of civil servants in Afghanistan through UCA’s Local Economic and Community Development (LECD) certificate programme.
Consultations on Crime Prevention Plan Start in Batken
11 August 2014, Ak-Sai, Batken province. Consultations for the development of a crime prevention plan started in Ak-Sai district, Batken province of the Kyrgyz Republic (KR), within the framework of the U.S. Government-funded project “Support to Criminal Justice Reform in the Kyrgyz Republic”, implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The aim of this project is to strengthen cooperation between police and local communities on crime prevention and public safety based on social partnership principles.
Shamsh Kassim-Lakha to Lead the Planning and Building of the University of Central Asia
The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the University of Central Asia (UCA) announce the appointment of Shamsh Kassim-Lakha as Executive Chairman of the Board Executive Committee of UCA. As Executive Chairman, Kassim-Lakha will lead the planning and building of UCA campuses in Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan.

Kyrgyz citizens and other citizens with resident permit in the Kyrgyz Republic travelling to Estonia can apply for Schengen visa at the Embassy of Switzerland at Bishkek starting from 14 August 2014.
Shamsh Kassim-Lakha to Head the Aga Khan Development Network Representation in Kyrgyzstan
On his appointment as the diplomatic representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in the Kyrgyz Republic, Foreign Minister Mr. Erlan Abdyldayev received Mr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakhaon July 8, 2014, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bishkek.
UCA Board Executive Committee Visit Khorog Programmes and Governor of GBAO
During a two-day visit to Central Asia, the University of Central Asia (UCA) Board Executive Committee and senior members of UCA’s management toured the University’s main campus site and programmes in Khorog, Tajikistan on 5 July 2014. Accompanied by Akbar Ali Pesnani, Head of the Representation of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan, the Committee also visited AKDN projects, including Khorog City Park.

UCA Formally Hands Over Dasht Village Road to Khorog Municipality in presence of Khorog Mayor
Khorog, Republic of Tajikistan, 18 August 2014 – A new 2.5 kilometre road connecting the Khorog Intercity Road to the Dasht Village was completed by the University of Central Asia (UCA). It was officially handed over to the Khorog Municipality and the State Commission Department in the presence of Mayor Faromuz Imomberdiev on 18 August 2014.
Prospects for establishing a national system of accreditation for forensic laboratories in the Kyrgyz Republic
August 21, 2014, Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. The one-day "Accreditation of forensic organizations on the international standard ISO 17025: purpose, meaning and characteristics" seminar for specialists of the State Forensic Centre within the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic (SFC KR) and representatives of other expert organizations is held today in Bishkek. The seminar has been arranged within the framework of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Program on Criminal Justice in the Kyrgyz Republic.
