UCA Awards Certificates to Local Economic and Community Development Programme Civil Servants in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, 15 July 2015 – The University of Central Asia’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (UCA SPCE) held a Certificate Award ceremony on 15 July 2015 at the State Agency for Local-Self-Governance and Interethnic Relations under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for 15 civil servants who successfully completed the Local Economic and Community Development (LECD) Certificate Programme.

University of Central Asia Signs Milestone Curriculum Development Agreement with Seneca College, Canada

The University of Central Asia (UCA) signed a memorandum of understanding on 7 July 2015 with Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, located in Toronto, Canada to develop the English, mathematics and science curriculum for UCA’s first year Preparatory Programme. The programme will begin when UCA admits its first cohort of undergraduate students at its campus in Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic next year.

Kazakhstani vegetable oil producer Savola Foods receives EBRD support

Local currency loan of US$ 60 million will fund expansion of production and storage of edible oils. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expanding its presence in the agribusiness sector in Kazakhstan with a local currency loan to Savola Foods, a domestic producer of vegetable oils, based in the country’s Aktobe region.

Statelessness reduction campaign launched in Bishkek

Bishkek, 2 July 2015 – The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Kyrgyz Republic, the State Registration Service, and the Office of the Mayor of Bishkek launched a joint campaign to reduce statelessness in Bishkek city. The campaign is a continuation of the registration and documentation effort that began last year in the rural areas of the country.

EBRD provides tenge financing to Kazakhstan’s food and beverage producer RG Brands

Local currency loan of US$ 49.2 million is part of EBRD strategy to boost presence in Kazakh agribusiness. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is expanding its presence in the agribusiness sector in Kazakhstan with a local currency loan equivalent to US$ 49.2 million to RG Brands, the producer and distributor of many of the country’s most popular tea, juice and milk drinks.

The United Nations in the Kyrgyz Republic calls on the authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic to support the independence of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), namely the Ombudsman Institute and the National Center for the Prevention of Torture and to ensure that the two institutions can execute their mandate in line with the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic and with international human rights standards.
