During a visit to the Naryn Campus of the University of Central Asia (UCA) on 12 February 2017, the Naryn Mayor, Emilbek Alymkulov, expressed satisfaction that in the short period of time UCA has been in operation, “we are already seeing changes in the development of Naryn and this is very encouraging.”
The Mayor was speaking at an Open House hosted by UCA for prospective Grade 11 students, parents, and high school administrators from across Kyrgyzstan. During the day-long affair, students and their parents were introduced to UCA and its core specialisations: Computer Science; Communications and Media; Earth and Environmental Sciences and Economics.
The Mayor was welcomed to the Campus by Dr Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, Chairman of the UCA Board of Trustees, and Dr Diana Pauna, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. Following a tour of the campus, the Mayor addressed prospective students and encouraged them to apply for admission to UCA. “The University is making an important contribution to Naryn. We are supportive of UCA’s efforts and have a shared vision of future socio-economic development for the people in the region. The Naryn Government values UCA’s contribution,” said the Mayor.
“During my visit to the Naryn Campus, I was very impressed by the facilities, faculty, staff and the students who study here,” said a parent, Cholpon Alibakieva, from Bishkek. “This university is very important to the Naryn Oblast, which is in a remote area of our country. I hope that Naryn continues to benefit from UCA in the coming years.
Over 150 visitors toured the University’s facilities, explored programmes and attended workshops. Faculty and staff detailed the residential campus experience, including the preparatory programme, degree specialisations, admission requirements and financial aid options. Current students who lead the Student Life, and Health and Wellness Club also organised an array of activities to give the young visitors a taste of life on this residential campus.
“I learnt about UCA from my teachers, and am very glad I came. The tour was interesting but it was the atmosphere in this university which impressed me the most. When visiting other universities, I saw campuses in busy districts, but here, I see mountains and nature when looking out of the classroom and dormitories – it is very peaceful and totally different,” said Diana Belousova, Grade 11 student from the Kyrgyz-Turkish Lyceum in Karakol.
Depending on their choice of majors, students can apply to study either at the UCA Naryn Campus, Kyrgyzstan which opened in September 2016, or the UCA Khorog campus, Tajikistan, scheduled to open in September 2017.
UCA’s School of Arts and Sciences is currently accepting applications for undergraduate studies for the 2017-2018 Academic Year, and the $15 admission fee is waived for students who apply on or before 3 March. The deadline for applications is 17 March 2017.
