The USAID Dialogue on HIV and TB Project, funded by the United States Government, will conduct a roundtable to share results of its project implementation aimed at improving access to quality services for injecting drug users in Chui Oblast.

On September 7 residents of Osh will celebrate the reopening of the rehabilitated Kelechek Youth Center. The renovation of the Youth Center is an Osh municipal government initiative supported by the United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

On September 1, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Quality Learning Project, supported by the United States Government, will hold a media tour to attend the opening ceremony of the new school year in Kalys-Ordo School # 86, and visit a small grants project in the Ak-Tilek neighborhood, located in the new settlements around Bishkek. OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice-President Walburga Habsburg Douglas of Sweden has been appointed to lead the short term OSCE observer mission to the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan 30 October.

The protection of the rights of torture victims, application of international human rights standards during the investigation and prosecution of torture crimes, as well as existing national practices and problems in this sphere is the focus of a three-day OSCE-supported training course for prosecutors, deputy prosecutors and assistant prosecutors that started on 5 September in Bishkek.

Study tour of prison officials of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Kingdon was organized in the framework of the European Union and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime “Support to Prison Reform in the Kyrgyz Republic”. The overall objective of the study visit was to provide an opportunity to learn best practice in prison management and alternatives to imprisonment in England and Wales.

A study tour to Latvia and Finland for representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s penal enforcement body took place from 21 to 27 August 2011, organized by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek with support of the Permanent Mission of Finland to the OSCE.

An Iftar - the evening meal breaking the daily fast during the month of Ramadan - with local and regional state officials, members of different religious communities, police authorities and representatives of ethnic communities in Osh was held today by the OSCE Field Office in Osh in partnership with Kyrgyzstan’s State Commission for Religious Affairs.

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) handed the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic generators and one Niva car.  This provision of technical assistance aims to improve and modernize the technical capacity of the ministry and its divisions in the South of the country.
