Regarding the article “Полицейские ОБСЕ отказываются от Киргизии2 September, 2010
Regarding the article “Полицейские ОБСЕ отказываются от Киргизии" published in Kommersant on 1 September, we would like to clarify that the investigation of the June events in Kyrgyzstan is not a part of the mandate of the OSCE Police Advisory Group.
According to reports, Kyrgyzstan's President Roza Otunbayeva has appointed Kimmo Kiljunen, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for Central Asiaa, to lead an International Independent Commission for Inquiry to investigate the June events. Nevertheless, the Commission is neither a part of the OSCE nor will it work under the aegis of the OSCE.
While we fully respect Kommersant's freedom to choose the headlines of its articles, the headline "Полицейские ОБСЕ отказываются отКиргизии" (OSCE Policemen Give Up on Kyrgyzstan) is both misleading and factually incorrect. As we have repeatedly stated, the OSCE Police Advisory Group is ready to deploy as soon as possible. The Head of the Police Advisory Group Markus Mueller is in Bishkek now to hold discussions with Kyrgyzstan's senior officials.
